Adult Lavender Ameraucana Hens & Chicks

The Ameraucana breed of chicken was developed in the United States in the 1970s. The breed’s most striking features are their slate or black legs and the fact that they lay blue-tinted eggs. Ameraucanas have both beards and muffs. Their pea comb makes them a great bird for colder climates. They typically have a quiet and calm personalities. You can expect 4-6 blue eggs per week from these hens.

The Lavender color variation is also called “self-blue” and will breed true. You can expect all lavender-colored chicks from pure lavender parents. The lavender color is similar to the blue coloring but is generally lighter in appearance than the blue. The American Poultry Association does recognize the self-blue color variety (APA doesn’t call it Lavender) in the Ameraucana breed.
